Lakers Taking Steps to Correct Typos on Kobe Bryant Statue Outside Crypto.com Arena
The Los Angeles Lakers are fixing some spelling mistakes on the Kobe Bryant statue outside Crypto.com Arena. These errors were spotted before the Lakers’ game against the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 8.
A Lakers spokesperson confirmed they’ve known about the mistakes for a few weeks and are working on getting them fixed soon. The mistakes include:
Spelling “Von Wafer” as “Vom Wafer”
Spelling “José Calderón” as “Jose Calderson”
Misspelling “decision” as “decicion” twice in “Coach’s Decision”
The corrections will be made on the part of the statue that displays the box score of Bryant’s incredible 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.
The statue shows Bryant pointing to the fans and is surrounded by the five championship trophies he won during his amazing career. It also features one of Bryant’s quotes: “Leave the game better than you found it. And when it comes time for you to leave, leave a legend.”
Kobe’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, mentioned that there will be three statues of Bryant outside the arena eventually, including one with their daughter, Gianna.
The statue unveiling happened before the Lakers’ game against the Nuggets, which the Lakers lost 114-106. The Nuggets have been a tough opponent for the Lakers, sweeping them in the Western Conference Finals last season and winning all three regular-season matchups this year.
Kobe Bryant spent his entire 20-year NBA career with the Lakers, earning five championships, two NBA Finals MVPs, a league MVP, 18 All-Star selections, 15 All-NBA nods, and two scoring titles along the way.
